Ars Electronica Center
Opened in 2009, the Ars Electronica Center has become Linz' number one tourist site. The exterior was built to resemble a futuristic ship and LED lights constantly change colors and patterns at night. Inside you can create light drawings, interact with robots, analyze DNA, or take a virtual trip around the world.
Linz' Hauptplatz, or "main square", is surrounded by baroque and Renaissance buildings. It is a great place to grab a coffee, try the famous Linzer Torte, and watch any number of street performers who are always here to entertain the crowds.
This brand new theater just opened in April of 2013. The exterior departs from tradition with its geometric design. The house is rapidly gaining a strong reputation for its opera, musical theater, ballet, and theater productions. Check online for performance dates and times.
The museum focuses on paintings, installations, and photography from the 20th and 21st centuries. There is a steady stream of rotating exhibitions. The Landesgalerie itself is found in a gorgeous 19th century building, and the open-air sculpture park is home to some terrific modern pieces.
