Prior to Travel

A visa is not required for stays of 180 days or less.

Upon arrival, travellers can indicate the planned duration of their stay if it does not exceed 180 days. Depending on the intended length of stay, entry stamps are issued for a stay of 30, 60 or 90 days.

Upon request, arriving travellers may have to show proof of onward travel, a confirmed hotel booking and/or sufficient financial means for the duration of stay.

The permitted duration of stay may not be extended.

Travellers should ensure they do not exceed the permitted length of stay in the destination country in order to avoid possible sanctions such as fines, custody pending deportation or even entry bans.

Non-essential travel to the state of Guerrero is currently advised against (with the exception of Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo and the city of Taxco) due to Hurricane Otis.

For safety reasons, travel to the following regions is strongly discouraged:

- State of Colima, with the exception of Manzanillo, if traveling by boat or plane

- State of Guerrero, with the exception of Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo if arriving by air and the city of Taxco if arriving and departing by day.

- In the state of Michoacán, the areas west of the state capital Morelia

- State of Sinaloa, with the exception of Mazatlán, where the Zona Dorada and historic center are located, if arriving and departing directly by plane, as well as Los Mochis and the "El Chepe" railroad line

- State of Tamaulipas, north of Ciudad Victoria

- State of Zacatecas

- Border region to the USA for stays beyond the minimum required for entry and exit.

Travel to the following regions is discouraged:

- State of Guanajuato: travel southwest of Federal Highway 45D, including Celaya, Salamanca, and Irapuato, where there are increased security incidents and drug-related violence.

- State of Chiapas: travel on Federal Highway 199, which connects Palenque to San Cristobal de las Casas, where robberies are frequent.

For travellers entering from a risk-free area, there are no longer any registration or other requirements.

Since May 2022, no proof of a negative test, a vaccination or recovery is required, in order to enter Germany.
