Top Attractions in Zagreb
Zagreb Cathedral is both the tallest building in Croatia and also one of the most beautiful. Originally constructed in 1093, the building was destroyed once by the Tatars in 1242 and a second time by an earthquake in 1880, before being rebuilt. Its Neo-Gothic facade can be seen all over the city, so it is difficult to miss!
Ban Jelačić Square
Zagreb's premier square provides an excellent base for your exploration of the city. Featuring beautiful buildings and a number of cafes with outdoor seating, the square is a great place to relax and rest your feet with a beer in hand for an hour or two. All of Zagreb's main attractions are nearby, making it simple to continue your sightseeing.
Dolac Market is an institution in Zagreb. Located just a short walk from the cathedral, the market is a great place to pick up some fresh fruit or souvenirs and to enjoy a conversation with one of the local vendors.
Lotrscak Tower - located in the old town - is a 13th century tower initially built as a protective look-out station. The tower is known today for its cannon, which has been fired every day at noon since 1877. Visitors can also climb to the top of the tower for sensational views of the city.
Croatian National Theatre
One of the most beautiful 'modern' buildings in the city (it was built in 1895), the Croatian National Theatre is a great place to take in some Croat culture after your flight to Zagreb; the intimate venue hosts just 850 people.
