Prior to Travel

The following documents may be required for a visa application: Proof of valid health insurance, proof of sufficient financial means for the duration of the stay, proof of onward travel and accommodation as well as passport photos and an invitation letter. To apply for a visa for minors who travel alone or with only one parent/guardian, a birth certificate and the declaration of consent of the other guardian may be required. Binding information on these matters is provided by the competent diplomatic mission abroad.

Travellers receive a free visa on arrival, which entitles them to a maximum stay of 30 days.

Upon request, arriving travellers may have to show proof of onward travel, a confirmed hotel booking and/or sufficient financial means for the duration of stay.

Maldives Immigration

Travellers should ensure they do not exceed the permitted length of stay in the destination country in order to avoid possible sanctions such as fines, custody pending deportation or even entry bans.

The Federal Foreign Office points out that in view of the worldwide COVID-19 pandemic, there are still risks associated with international travel, especially for people without full vaccination protection as well as vulnerable groups. Regulations on entry or international transport connections can change quickly with the pandemic situation.

The so called "3G rule" is lifted when entering Germany, there is a recommendation to wear a mask at some airports.

Prior to Entry

Borders have reopened to foreign nationals and international air traffic has also resumed. At present, the stay is limited to the booked resort. Temperature checks are conducted and random tests might be carried out. If incoming passengers display covid-19 symptoms, they will have to take a corona test at their own expense. All passengers are required to complete an 'Immigration Arrival Card' when arriving in the Maldives.

Confirmed accommodation bookings as well as a Health Declaration must be provided on arrival. The health declaration must be completed online within 96 hours of departure. All passengers are required to complete an 'Immigration Arrival Card' when arriving in the Maldives.

Transits in the Maldives are possible, if the transit is longer than one day you have to check into a transit hotel.

Children and minors are not generally exempt in case testing requirements apply.

Travellers with COVID-19 symptoms must be retested at the arrival airport for a fee. Free random tests can be carried out on arrival.

Travellers entering the Maldives on a Tourist Visa are not required to quarantine.

However, incoming travellers testing positive on arrival due to symptoms or random testing will be subject to quarantine for 3 to 14 days.

The costs for quarantine and tests must be borne by the travellers. The Federal Foreign Office therefore recommends taking out additional insurance.

For travellers entering from a risk-free area, there are no longer any registration or other requirements.

There is no obligation to test before entering Germany.

Since May 2022, no proof of a negative test, a vaccination or recovery is required, in order to enter Germany.

Recovered persons are exempt from quarantine and testing obligations nationwide, area of active circulation of highly contagious virus variants. Those who have recovered need proof of a positive PCR test (or other nucleic acid detection) at least 28 days and no more than 3 months ago.
