Denali National Park
This park, comprised of 5,430 km² of gorgeous landscape, is located within the Alaska Mountain Range and is home to Mount McKinley; with an elevation of 6,168 m, it is the highest peak in North America. The park is serviced by a 146 kilometre long road. Hiking trails are plentiful.
Lake Hood Air Harbor
This is the largest float-plane harbour in the world. Each day around 150 water take-offs and landings can be seen here, and up to 800 during the busy summer season! You can also book air sight-seeing tours from here so you can experience a water take-off and landing for yourself.
Alaska Native Heritage Centre
The renown Alaska Native Heritage Centre provides information on the history and culture of Alaska Natives. It is found on a wooded 26-acre site in east Anchorage and has a variety of live performances, hands-on demonstrations, and an impressive collection of over 600 rare Alaska Native heritage artifacts.
This stunning natural wonder is found just 50 miles south of down-town Anchorage. The drive to the park is beautiful in and of itself; you can see two other smaller glaciers on the way. The visitor centre has plenty of information and is the place to book a guided tour to the face of the glacier.
