You've got several options for taking your instrument with you. The key factor is the size.
As carry-on baggage: If your instrument case does not exceed the dimensions for carry-on baggage, you can take your instrument with you as a carry-on baggage item:
Small bag: max. 40 x 30 x 10 cm (15.7 x 11.8 x 3.9 in)
Large bag or cabin trolley: max. 55 x 40 x 20 cm (21.6 x 15.7 x 7.8 in)
But please remember: The number of pieces of hand luggage you can take with you depends on the fare you've booked.
If you'd like to bring a carry-on trolley and your instrument on board, it's best to book another piece of hand luggage in advance. You can find all the terms here.
As checked baggage: If your instrument exceeds the above dimensions, you need to drop it off at the counter as checked baggage. We will then transport it in the cargo hold, and at your destination, you can pick it up along with your suitcases at the baggage carousel. If you'd like to check in your musical instrument along with other baggage, you can book additional baggage online in advance.
As cargo: If your instrument exceeds the maximum size and weight for checked baggage in your fare, you must ship it as cargo. You can find more information here.

But don't worry if you pack too much. You can book additional weight or an extra piece of luggage online in advance. This option does not apply to large special or sports equipment. All details and costs for additional baggage are available on our additional baggage page.
You can carry food in your checked baggage or carry-on baggage. But make sure to check the import regulations of your destination country. After the security check, you can of course also shop at the airport. Drinks and food from duty-free are exempt from liquid restrictions if they remain in the sealed bag.
