There are several options open to passengers taking an instrument with them. The deciding factor is the size of the instrument.
As carry-on baggage: If your instrument case does not exceed the maximum dimensions for carry-on baggage, you can take your instrument on board as a carry-on baggage item:
Personal item: max. 16 x 12 x 6 inches
Large bag or cabin suitcase: max. 22 x 16 x 9 inches
However, please note: The number of carry-on items you are allowed to bring depends on the fare you have booked.
If you would like to bring both a carry-on suitcase and your instrument on board, it is best to book an additional item of carry-on baggage in advance. You can find all the regulations here.
As checked baggage: If your instrument exceeds the above dimensions, you need to drop it off at the counter as checked baggage item. We will then transport it in the cargo hold, and at your destination, you can pick it up along with your suitcases at the baggage carousel. If you'd like to check in your musical instrument along with other baggage, you can book additional baggage online in advance.
As cargo: If your instrument exceeds the maximum size and weight for checked baggage for your fare, you must check it in as cargo. You can find further information here.
