5 Reasons Why You Should Travel to Reno (RNO)

1. The Truckee River shaping downtown life

Cottonwoods line the Truckee River as it runs through downtown. Walk the Reno Riverwalk past cafés and public art, then pause at Wingfield Park as kayakers and festivals bring the river corridor into everyday city life.

2. High-desert days with Sierra trail access

Clear air and big skies define Reno’s high-desert setting. In about an hour by car you can reach Lake Tahoe for beaches, hikes or winter snow sports, with conditions changing fast, so check forecasts and stay on marked trails.

3. Midtown blocks filled with murals and makers

Old brick storefronts and fresh murals give Midtown Reno its street-level character. Browse indie boutiques and galleries, then follow the local arts calendar with events like the Midtown Art Walk for a look at the city’s creative side.

4. Basque tables and Nevada comfort cooking

Picon Punch and family-style Basque dinners are a northern Nevada tradition. In Reno, spots like Louis’ Basque Corner serve hearty plates such as lamb and rabbit, reflecting the region’s long-standing Basque community and dining culture.

5. A classic road-trip gateway to nearby towns

Neon signage and wide boulevards hint at Reno’s road-trip heritage. Pair the city with a short drive to Virginia City, about 30 miles away, for boardwalk streets and old mining-era buildings, with tours and transport options varying.

Neon glow under the Reno Arch

Neon tubes and bold lettering make the Reno Arch a classic night frame, especially when the bulbs start to sparkle against a deep blue sky. The intersection around Virginia Street and Commercial Row adds motion from passing cars and pedestrians, giving your shots a lively downtown pulse. Step a little off-center and you can capture the arch hovering over the street like a stage set. Late evening often feels calmer than peak dinner hours, with cleaner sightlines for photos. #NeonNoir #CityLightsAtNight #SkylinesOfAmerica

Riverwalk reflections at Wingfield Park

Cottonwoods and riverside boulders line the Truckee River here, creating a natural frame in the middle of downtown. Depending on water flow, the surface alternates between glassy reflections and textured whitewater, so the scene can look completely different from one visit to the next. Bridges, paths and pockets of shade give you variety for both wide scenes and quieter detail shots. It’s especially photogenic in the softer light of morning or early evening. #ReflectionsEverywhere #WaterScapes #CityscapeShots

The ‘BELIEVE’ letters at City Plaza

Giant letters spelling “BELIEVE” turn a public plaza into a graphic backdrop that reads instantly on camera. In daylight, the matte surfaces and sharp edges feel clean and modern, while evening lighting can add a more cinematic look. Because the plaza is an active civic space, the atmosphere shifts with whatever’s happening nearby, from street performers to casual meetups. If there’s an event setup, you can still capture strong angles from the surrounding sidewalks. #SymmetryHunters #UrbanPerspective #AmericanRoadscapes
